The Uttarakhand forest department has initiated action against alleged “illegal constructions” in the forest land areas of the state.

Under the campaign, various structures, which include temples and mazars, or Muslim shrines, are being removed from government land.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party has welcomed the action, Congress leader and former chief minister of the state, Harish Rawat, objected to use of the term “Mazar Jihad” by current CM Pushkar Singh Dhami to describe the action.
